Chastan Swain
Chastan is a lawyer who recently graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Raised on a tobacco farm in the North Carolina piedmont, Chastan developed a deep love of natural spaces and a passion for conservation. This passion was solidified in 2013 when he thru hiked the Appalachian Trail. Upon moving to Durham Chastan found solace in the ECWA preserves, and immediately he sought a way to be involved with the organization. He began serving as an ECWA board member in 2019.
After completing a BFA at Appalachian State University, Chastan worked for the Blue Ridge Conservancy in Boone, N.C., focusing on the Middle Fork Greenway project. Additionally, he has worked for the N.C. Clean Water Management Trust Fund researching legal issues. Chastan serves as Chair of ECWA's Local Government Committee and is also a member of the Land Protection Committee.
