Larry Brockman

Larry’s a graduate of Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affair and was a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Sri Lanka for two years working on soil conservation, cook stoves and environmental education.  He has worked with EPA for over 34 years.  Larry worked 6 years in EPA’s Pacific NW office in Seattle, WA, splitting his time between the Region’s Water Program and the Native American Tribal Program. Larry reviewed and commented on federal environmental impact statements including road construction projects, Forest service timber sales and hydro power projects. Larry worked with and supported numerous tribal governments in developing and implementing environmental programs and projects such as water quality improvement, fisheries expansion and solid management. 

Larry moved to North Carolina in 1997 and has worked for EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards in Research Triangle Park, NC. The last 15 years Larry has then the team leader of EPAs Burn Wise Education program. Larry works in partnership with state, local and tribal governments, the hearth industry and non-profit organizations in  encouraging and supporting wood burning appliance changeout programs and education around cleaner burning practices. 

Larry has volunteered with the Ellerbe  Watershed Association for the last 25 years, serving in a variety of capacities, including ECWA president for five years, Chair of the Land Stewardship Committee, acted as a land steward, and has organized and led dozens of volunteer days and nature hikes.
