John is a nationally recognized leader in K-8 school design and curriculum innovation and advocate for child centered and evidence-driven Project-Based Learning. For the past 35 years, John’s life work has been dedicated to improving children’s lives by unleashing their imagination, curiosity, and compassion. As Executive Director at CPSC for 15 years, he designed the first Diverse by Design lottery and admissions policy for a public charter school in the southeast United States. John has received fellowships from the Orion Society, the Fulbright Program, and NC State University’s Kenan Institute, as well as certificates from Harvard’s Principal Institute, Georgetown’s Edunomics Lab School Finance Program, and the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals’ Association. A native of Philadelphia, John holds a B.A. from Georgetown University and an M.Ed. from Bank Street College of Education. In addition to serving as a professional development leader at Durham’s Forest View Elementary School (named by Governor Hunt as the most innovative public school in North Carolina), he was a teacher himself for 15 years. |
