Ian Pond

Ian is a keen kayaker on flat and whitewater and has paddled many of our local rivers and lakes. An exploratory trip down the Ellerbe from Red Mill Road introduced him to the trash islands, including a huge one at the train trestle. With that memory, when Ian was approached by fellow Northgate Park resident Mike Shiflett to help with Big Sweep, it was an easy leap for Ian to lead a clean-up on the Ellerbe – he was hooked!

Ian’s passion for the Ellerbe is the physical creek and its cleanliness, but he is willingly involved in land-based clean ups too and is an active Preserve Steward.

Ian is ECWA's Board Secretary and has lived in the Northgate Park neighborhood with his wife Carol since 2008, Carol being a native of Northgate Park.
