Clayton Rugh

Clayton Rugh is an environmental scientist and “green” building materials manufacturer. Clayton conducted research at the University of Georgia and Michigan State University using engineered and native plants for detoxification of soils and waters impacted with heavy metal and persistent organic pollutants, helping to drive the new field of phytoremediation. For the past 20 years, Clayton has manufactured, supplied and directed vegetated “green” roof materials installation on more than 600 green roof projects throughout the US covering more than 3 million square feet that mitigate more than 60 million gallons of rainwater runoff per year.

Clayton serves as co-chair of ECWA’s Water Management Committee and assists with local Creek Smart® installations, workshops and cleanup outings at ECWA preserves and waterways. He is also a member of ECWA's Fundraising Commitee. When not supplying green roofs and supporting ECWA efforts, Clayton helps his wife enjoy their several dozen chickens and ever-expanding vegetable garden.
